“Do you teach English in person?” | Q&A with Larissa (SUBTITLES)| Practice your Listening Skills

“I answer your questions. You practice your listening skills.”

Instructions

Listen to what I say while reading the text. Notice how I change the language:

  • What do I stress?
  • What do I de-stress?
  • Where does my voice (pitch) go up?
  • What words and sounds am I connecting?
  • What words and sounds am I creating from those connections?
  • What sounds and words am I deleting?

Do this several times, then watch the same video without subtitles. Do you understand more? Do this repeatedly. Remember to be an active listener!

Hey guys!

It’s Larissa from ElementalEnglish.com.

Today’s question is from Felipe from Bogotá, Colombia.

uhh Felipe asks,

“Do you teach students in person? Do you tutor? Do you teach in a classroom?”

Uhh, Felipe, yes! I do teach students in person! That’s why I don’t have time — always — to umm dedicate to the web site or make videos at all hours of the day. Or respond to every question that I get.

But yes, I teach students in person. For the past couple of years, I’ve been teaching graduate students and professionals who come to America to study, and they need to improve their English at a very high level, a very sophisticated level. umm So for them, I teach a little bit of content but always through English.

All of my in-person students know that pronunciation is still my favorite topic uhhh to teach and to talk about. And they all leave my classroom at the end of the semester and the year knowing all about the music of English.

umm I love teaching in the classroom. There’s just so much energy. I get so much energy from all of the students around me, and I absolutely love it. I keep in touch with all my students on Facebook, too.

Ok? Thanks for the question!

You can watch the videos repetitively to improve your listening skills. And be a very active listener.
